Checklist For Moving:
Before You Leave:
- Post Office - give forwarding address
- Update credit card, other accounts
- Subscriptions six or eight weeks notice - newspaper, magazines, online etc
Bank:
- Transfer funds and arrange check cashing in your new city
- Cancel any automatic payment or direct deposit arrangements
- Arrange credit reference
Insurance:
- Notify companies of new location for coverage
- Life, Health, Fire & Auto
Utility Companies
- Gas, Light, Water, Telephone, Fuel, Garbage, Cable TV, Cellular
- Get refunds on any deposits made
Delivery Services
- Laundry, newspaper, change-over of services
Children
- Register in school
- Transfer school records
- Arrange for day care
Records
- Ask doctor/dentist for referrals, get prescriptions, eyeglasses, X-rays etc
- Copies of Birth Certificates, medical records, legal & CPA records
Pets:
- Inquire about licenses, consult veterinarian on moving pet
- Obtain pets records
Don't Forget To:
- Empty & defrost freezer, charcoal inside will control odors
- Service appliances before moving
- Clean rugs and/or clothing before moving; properly wrap for move
- Check with move counselor on insurance coverage, packing/unpacking labor,
arrival day, various paper stock, method & time of expected payment
- Legally dispose of non-movable items; paint, oil, batteries, etc
- Moving plants - verify regulations if relocating into California
